Five hundred people were in attendance last night at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to hear Mark Kelly, astronaut, Navy pilot and husband of Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, speak at the fourth annual Peter Hoagland Integrity in Public Service Lecture Series.
The annual lecture series was created by MCG Partner Jim Crounse to honor Congressman Peter Hoagland’s legacy and inspire young Nebraskans to dedicate themselves to public service and to serve with integrity. Congressman Hoagland passed away in 2007.
Kelly spoke about his wife's decision to leave Congress and about his four missions aboard Endeavour, including one as commander on its final mission. He said his wife's health has improved much in the past year.
He shared a note from Giffords that said: "Be passionate. Be courageous. Be strong. Be your best."

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'"
To honor Dr. King's legacy and to mark the 25th anniversary of the King Holiday, Mack/Crounse Group is participating in the MLK 25 Challenge - a call to all Americans to honor Dr. King by pledging to take at least 25 actions during 2011 to make a difference for others and strengthen our communities. We'll post updates about our service throughout the year.

Members of the MCG family give back to their communities and country in many ways. Vice President of Operations Linda Patterson is on a mission in the Navajo Nation in New Mexico, refitting homes and helping residents.
Linda’s been sending us dispatches about the work she’s doing, the people she’s met, and the places she’s been:
Monday was all about radient heat (a very efficient way of heating a home in New Mexico), a great conversation at lunch with Frank, a Navajo man who shared about the cultural differences of Navajo and Anglos, and a visit to the Shiprock, an inactive volcano that is part of the spiritual and visual center of this portion of the Navajo reservation.

The Mack Crounse Group has been recognized as a Silver Ambassador and a founding member of the Corporate Ambassadors program for the organization Doorways for Women and Families. MCG Partner Jim Arnold was also recently appointed as a member of the Board of Directors at Doorways. Doorways is a group working to end domestic violence and homelessness. The organization offers safe shelter and housing, support services and community advocacy to women and families in Northern Virginia.
Doorways was recently honored with a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, the country's largest and most-utilized evaluator of charities. It has also been awarded the 2009 Washington Post's Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management.

Mack | Crounse Group would like to congratualate Doorways for Women and Families, one of the nonprofit organizations we support, for winning the Washington Post 2009 Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management. The awards ceremony was held yesterday at the Washington Post headquarters in Washington, DC.
