At MCG, we’re pretty geeked up for the return of Mad Men (… and The Walking Dead… and Breaking Bad… and pretty much every other show on AMC).
A few months back, Mad Men released a couple new promotional posters for the upcoming 5th season. These were designed by the South African firm Radio.

The still life approach fits the Mad Men era. And I really dig the illustrations. It’s all computer generated but made to feel like a vintage poster. The designer also has a good sense of composition and space, using varied shapes that fit together like a puzzle.
There’s great attention to detail, particularly on the Lucky Strike cigs and the Canadian Club whiskey. Although the concept isn’t super creative, I still like the posters because of the detail on each element.
The vintage feel of these actually reminds me a little of the work of Olly Moss, who does a lot of re-imagined movie posters. He typically takes details from old movies and uses them to create a totally new poster – and he always avoids the typical floating-head-montage-with-obnoxiously-large-title format.

Moxie Creative also did a series of minimalist re-creations of movie posters in 2010. These posters were inspired by what the wardrobe of the main characters. The series was called “Dress the Part.” Very cool!
